Close to a million Rohingya people have fled violence in Myanmar to seek refuge across the border in Bangladesh. This unprecedented number of refugees, of whom more than half are children, has caused a large-scale humanitarian crisis. Many have arrived injured and deeply traumatized by their experiences, with just the clothes on their backs. They need food, clean water and shelter to survive, but above all they need to feel safe. Following this circumstances, Bangladesh has set an example of humanity by sheltering over a million displaced persons from Rakhine State and assured of staying beside Rohingya people.
Following the attacks, hundreds of Rohingya attempted to cross over to Bangladesh but got stranded at the Naf River along the border. The South Asian country’s authorities say they have a “zero tolerance” policy for Rohingya entering Bangladesh.
Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership as “exemplary” for keeping Bangladesh’s border open for the Rohingyas who have fled violent persecution in Myanmar. She saved the face of the global leaders from “ignominy and disgrace” by sheltering the persecuted people of Rakhine province of Myanmar. She also wants Myanmer government to take back their people and criticized Myanmar’s leader, Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, and it’s military for their audaciousness.
Myanmar government didn’t show any interest to take back Rohingyas. Though several agreement signed between Bangladesh and Myanmar on this issue but Myanmar government is not following those agreement. Moreover, their government showing intense insolence to Bangladesh by claiming Saint Martin as their territory. Though they have admitted that it was a mistake but such mistake should always be carefully avoided.
